IBI’s Blood Agar Base #2 is recommended for the cultivation of a wide variety of microorganisms. When prepared with 5 – 10% blood, the media can be used to cultivate fastidious microorganisms and study hemolytic reactions.
Store at room temperature (less than 30⁰C), tightly sealed, and protect from moisture and light.

● Casein Digest Peptone 7.5 gm
● Peptic Digest of Animal Tissue 7.5 gm
● Sodium Chloride 5.0 gm
● Liver Digest 5.0 gm
● Yeast Extract 5.0 gm
● Agar 12.0 gm
Preparation
Mix 39.5 grams of the medium in a Liter of purified water until evenly dispersed. Heat with repeated stirring and boil
for one minute to dissolve completely. Distribute and autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes. Prepare 5 to 10% blood
agar by adding the appropriate volume of sterile defibrinated blood to melted sterile agar medium, cooled to 45-50°C.
Dispense into Petri dishes or tubes.
