IBI MINI FlexTubes for Dialysis and Gel Extraction

The IBI MINI FlexTubes are designed for precise small-volume applications, including dialysis, gel extraction, electro-elution, and de-salting. With a Molecular Weight Cut-Off (MWCO) of 25KDa and a membrane size of 0.4cm x 1.1cm, these tubes efficiently isolate proteins, DNA, RNA, and oligonucleotides (>15nt) in volumes ranging from 10-250µl. The regenerated cellulose membrane ensures excellent sample recovery, while the screw-cap top allows seamless loading and unloading using a standard pipette tip. Multiple FlexTubes can be placed in one buffer tank, enabling high-throughput electro-elution with minimal hands-on time.

For optimal protein gel extraction, the IBI MINI FlexTubes should be used with Quick Blue Protein Stain, ensuring high recovery yields without protein fixation or the need for hazardous solvents.

High Recovery Yields and Enhanced Purity

The IBI MINI FlexTubes deliver exceptional recovery yields, with up to 70% for proteins and over 90% for DNA fragments from agarose or polyacrylamide gels. Large DNA fragments (>100Kb) and protein-nucleic acid complexes are easily extracted, while the tube’s compatibility with SDS removal enhances sample purity for downstream applications like MALDI-MS. For mass spectrometry analysis, the use of MS Buffer enables efficient protein precipitation, ensuring greater sensitivity and accurate molecular mass determination. Compared to traditional diffusion methods, the FlexTube simplifies de-salting and Oligo PAGE electro-elution, offering a faster and more efficient solution. Rigorously tested for gel extraction, dialysis, and buffer exchange, the IBI MINI FlexTubes ensure high-quality results for molecular biology workflows.

FlexTube FAQs

Why do my FlexTubes have water in them and in the bag they came in?

Some FlexTubes are shipped with water inside of the tube to protect the membrane. Some water might leak through the membrane and water is added to the bag as well.

Can I tape another tube to the electro-elution tray to run more FlexTubes at one time?

Yes, as long as the arrow on the tube is facing up, and the membranes are facing the electric field.

What Molecular Weight Cut Off do I need?

Anything below the listed MWCO can travel through the membrane. To calculate the MW of a nucleic acid: 330 Da  MW of 1 base 660 Da  MW of 1 base pair

What type of stain do I need if I want to electro-elute protein from an acrylamide gel?

SeeB and Stain (Extraction) grade is needed because it won’t fix the proteins in the gel. Stains such as Coomassie Blue will fix the proteins in the gel and the proteins will not come out during electro-elution.

Can I concentrate my sample in the Flextube by centrifugation?

No, if the Flextube is centrifuged, the fluid will leak out of the membrane.

After electro-elution, can I use the same tube for dialysis of my sample?

Yes, remove gel from tube and then dialyze against a large amount of water. However, some gel residue may still be in the sample from electro-elution. Refer to the Oligo protocol for more information.
